Portfolio Development Course
Lera Kelemen, artist and co-founder of Feelium, will be leading a series of short courses designed to assist emerging artists and creative practitioners in developing their portfolios for professional applications in the industry.
This mentorship program is crafted for young or emerging artists, creative practitioners preparing for university applications and those seeking to refine their existing body of work into a cohesive artist portfolio. The program imparts practical skills in portfolio construction, bio writing, and artist statement development. Upon completing the course, each participant will receive a minimum 5-page portfolio layout and a concise artist bio ready to be used in applications and presentations.Click here
Introduction and Artist Positioning: Get to know your fellow participants and our course leader. Explore literature on artist positioning.
Portfolio Development: Select and organise artwork for your portfolio. Tailor the content specific to your practice.
Artist Statement and Design: Receive an InDesign template and guidance for crafting an artist statement.
Gallery Role-Play: Practice introducing yourself as an artist to gallery professionals. Receive constructive feedback on coherence, information, confidence, engagement, and personality.
Application Insights: Explore various application categories (residencies, academic, etc.) and review real-world examples.
Portfolio Critiques: Analyse a selection of artists' portfolios, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
Interactive Learning: Each day offers a blend of research, reading, and hands-on activities focused on personal development, including writing, presenting, and communication.
The course is spread across 3 days. Each day consists of two 90-minute sessions with a half-hour break in between, totalling 3h of instruction / day, and 9h altogether.
Course Fee: £150
A £50 deposit secures your spot, with the remainder due one day before the course begins. Full payment is required for course attendance.
